Everyone is Weird: Celebrate What Makes You You
Whether you're a Game of Thrones fanatic, a die-hard gamer, a tattoo enthusiast, the bass player in a death-metal band or just plain anti-cookie cutter, it's oh-so-important to make your big day unique to you and your partner.
Sometimes though, when you're planning your wedding, it can feel like the whole thing is really more about sticking to tradition and pleasing everyone else. Which can be a huge distraction and a disappointment. But if you want to make things truly unique to you, then go ahead and skip the church, the white dress and the cake. Posey Lane specializes in planning simple, intimate weddings and elopements in Calgary, Kananaskis, Canmore and Banff. We are all about picture-perfect venues, powerful vows and capturing every smile and tear. That's what we live for.
Stumped for ideas? Check out these for starters!
1. Choose a unique venue
Getting married in a church or at an outdoor park makes for a beautiful, traditional ceremony. But if that's just not your jam, I say go wild with your venue. Small services can be arranged in some of Calgary's libraries, museums and really cool theatres. Think of a place that would jive well with your vibe - a forest, a festival hall, a local pub? How about an outdoor tent wedding in the middle of nowhere? Have fun with this one!
2. Manage guest expectations
It is your day and you're entitled to rule-making. Go ahead and keep your guest list minimal and request things of them that will go along with your wedding goals and themes - if that's what you want. For example, if you already live with your partner and don't need a lot of household things, you can request that guests make a donation to charity instead, or even contribute to a honeymoon fund. Times are a'changing, my friends, and the days of strict wedding etiquette are long gone.
3. Have fun with dress
While themed weddings are nothing new, you don't have to go all-out cosplay (but you certainly can!) to make your wedding day crazy fun and memorable. Skip the formalities of a dress code and consider choosing a theme (or even just a colour) that your guests can wear that celebrates who you and what you're in to as a couple. If you really wanna be different, think about wearing a kicka$s pantsuit or jumpsuit instead of a wedding dress!
These are just a few ideas off the top of my head that allow you to buck tradition and choose your own intimate wedding adventure. Posey Lane loves to work with couples who think outside the box.
